Camp Dream Quest 2007 |
Camp Dream Quest was a huge success this summer as nine students participated in unique activities with and about horses. Running from June 4 - 8, the week-long day camp provided students with an even more immersive learning experience than their regular weekly lessons. Students learned new riding skills, such as barrel racing and trail riding. Before each riding session, students took an active role in grooming, tacking, and leading their horses. Our farm owner, Margaret, taught our students about some of the jobs she performs around the barn. When students weren't in riding sessions, they rotated to other activity centers. Volunteers taught them horse-related lessons in math and writing. The activity center devoted to games let students have fun with hula hoops, horse shoes, and relay races. At the craft table, students made scrapbooks that served as mementos of their week at camp. At the beginning and end of each day, all the campers gathered together for a team-building activity. They learned line dancing, worked together on a scavenger hunt, raced on stilts, tossed water balloons, and autographed each other's scrap books. Though the group was very diverse in their ages and ability levels, everyone really came together as a team. Everyone (instructors included!) had a great time and learned a lot! Dream Quest would like to thank all of the dedicated volunteers who made the camp a success. Thanks also to the parents who brought snacks for the group, took pictures, and helped the camp to run on time. Many thanks to the sponsors who made the dream of attending camp a reality for some of our students. Be sure to save the date for next summer’s Camp Dream Quest on June 2 – 6, 2008! |
